Fact, Legend and Mythology for the Artist

Another Lesson from Leonardo da Vinci's "A Treatise on Painting".

#130 - How a Painter ought to proceed in his studies. - "The painter ought always to form in his mind a kind of system of reasoning or discussion within himself on any remarkable object before him.  He should stop, take notes, and form some rule upon it; considering the place, the circumstances, the lights and shadows."

I think most of us work in this manner  -  We all have a process, a series of steps we work through to achieve that final image.  Some of us work this process mentally - others will manually plot it - one step at a time.  The important thing to remember is that no matter the method followed; you have a path that aids your understanding of the subject and one that allows you to render it beautifully.
